Woman dies following Hyde Park apartment fire
A 78-year-old woman died in the hospital after she was pulled from a burning apartment in Hyde Park early Thursday.

HYDE PARK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A 78-year-old woman died in the hospital after she was pulled from a burning apartment in Hyde Park early Thursday.

According to Los Angeles Fire Department officials, the woman was rescued from a unit of a two-story apartment complex in the 7500 block of Crenshaw Boulevard at about 1 a.m.

The woman was transported to a nearby hospital in grave condition and later died, fire officials said.

Forty-eight firefighters battled the blaze, which took 18 minutes to knock down.

Five units in total were damaged due to the fire, two of which were heavily burned.

Fire officials said they were working to confirm how and where the blaze began. It was unclear if the unit had working smoke alarms.

No other injuries were reported in the blaze.
