Woman seriously injured after being hit by car in Manhattan Beach

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- A woman was seriously injured while she was crossing the street against a red light in Manhattan Beach Monday night.

Authorities responded to reports of a person being hit by a car in the 2300 block of Aviation Boulevard shortly before 11 p.m.

A male driver in a 2014 Fiat model 500 traveled southbound on the street when he hit a female pedestrian crossing the street outside of a crosswalk during a red light.

The driver, identified as Manhattan Beach resident Samuel Martell, 26, was released at the scene. Authorities said he was not under the influence of any substances.

The woman, who has not been identified, was seriously injured and taken to a nearby hospital where she is being treated in the ICU.

The crash was under investigation.
