Young couple killed in suspected DUI crash in Lakewood
A young couple was killed after authorities believe they were involved in a head-on crash with a drunk driver in Lakewood.

LAKEWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- A young couple was killed in what authorities suspect may have been a drunk driving crash in Lakewood Tuesday night.

Authorities received a call around 9:30 p.m. regarding a car crash at the intersection of Frankel Street and Paramount Boulevard.

Neighbors on Paramount ran outside to help when they heard the impact from inside their homes.

"A big boom type sound. So we got up to see what it was and my brother-in-law says, 'Oh my God, there's been a car accident,'" Pamela George recalled.

Friends said a young couple was in one of the cars. When authorities arrived, the couple was dead.

The driver was identified by authorities as 30-year-old Brian Urquia of Long Beach. Friends identified his passenger as 20-year-old Rosanna Williams of Long Beach.

Friends said Urquia and Williams were planning a wedding for next year.

George, a registered nurse, tried to help the couple.

"I checked the gentleman out, the young man who was the driver and he was unconscious of course and he had a thready pulse. Then I went around to the passenger side and I tried to check her vital and she didn't have any," George described.

The driver of the other car, suspected of driving under the influence, was hospitalized in stable condition, police said.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's investigation into the crash was ongoing.

Anyone with information about the crash was urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Callers can remain anonymous.
