A long-abandoned Hyde Park library building should be turned into a youth center, advocates say.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- Advocates for youth causes are pushing for a long-abandoned library building in Inglewood to be converted to a community center.

The groups led by the Youth Justice Coalition rallied at the old Hyde Park library building to call on city and county leaders to dedicate 5 percent of law enforcement budgets to youth programs instead.

The library building, they said, could be converted to a safe space for youth development, resources and programs.

"This library could be turned into that safe space where young people would come and get all those things we've been talking about," said Ellen Sanchez with the LA for Youth Coordinating Committee.
