Zombie-mask wearing armed robbers target Garden Grove neighborhood

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. (KABC) -- Two armed robberies were reported in less than a half hour in a Garden Grove neighborhood on Monday, and authorities said in both cases the robbers wore masks.

Garden Grove police said the first armed robbery happened in the 14000 block of Euclid Street at about 9:30 p.m.

Officers arrived at the scene and found a man who said he was sitting inside of his car waiting for his girlfriend to get off work when two suspects, wearing hooded sweatshirts and masks, entered his vehicle and robbed him at gunpoint.

The suspects ran away from the scene with the victim's iPhone 6 and additional belongings, according to officials.

Police said they received a second report of an armed robbery nearby in the 13500 block of Shirley Street just before 10 p.m.

Officers arrived at the scene and found a man who said he was in the area after agreeing to meet up with a seller to purchase an iPhone 7.

The victim arrived to meet the seller, described by officials as a male in his late teens with short curly brown hair.

Investigators said while speaking to the man about buying the iPhone 7, the victim noticed three people standing behind him wearing dark clothing and zombie masks.

Two of the suspects were seen holding handguns and one was holding a shotgun, according to police.

Authorities said the suspect that met the victim ran from the scene with the iPhone 7 and the victim's money that was brought to buy the phone with.

The armed suspects also ran from the scene.

There were no reported injuries in either of the robberies.

Detectives were working to determine if the two robberies were connected and stated their investigation was ongoing.
