ORANGE COUNTY (KABC) -- Orange County Fire Authority firefighters rolled up their sleeves to receive the Moderna coronavirus vaccine on Saturday.

Orange County firefighters have been hit hard by the virus with 5% sidelined.

"We're relieved. This has been a long grind, and I've had so many firefighter become ill," said OCFA Chief Brian Fennessy.

The fire department worked with the Orange County Health Care Agency to ensure first responders would be among the first to get the vaccine.

At least 100 firefighters received the first dose of the vaccine, which will require a second dose to be fully inoculated.
