OXNARD, Calif. (KABC) -- An athletic coach in Oxnard was arrested on Monday after police said he allegedly had inappropriate interactions with two of his students.

William Esau Matau, 23, coached volleyball, basketball and soccer at Curren Elementary School as an employee of the City of Oxnard Recreational and Community Services Department.

Officials said he's suspected of inappropriately touching a 13-year-old girl and having inappropriate conversations with another 13-year-old girl by text and video messaging.

Police said the alleged acts do not appear to have taken place on school property.

Matau was taken into custody for lewd acts with a child under the age of 14 and child annoying.

His bail was set at $60,000.
