PASADENA, Calif. (KABC) -- An investigation was underway after a Pasadena police officer accidentally discharged a gun and shot another officer in the leg Friday, authorities said.

Lt. Mark Goodman of the Pasadena Police Department said the officer has been placed on paid leave pending the outcome of the internal investigation. He added that the wounded officer is now off duty due to the injury.

The shooting was reported around 8 p.m. at a parking structure near Ramona Street and Garfield Avenue. Goodman said the officers were on duty and were taking items out of a patrol car when the shooting took place.

Details on how the shooting happened were not immediately available. The injured officer was treated at a hospital and released, according to Goodman.

The department has not identified either of the two male officers.
