LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A lovable little dog who was left for dead is getting a new "leash" on life, thanks to the kindness of LAPD officers, vets, volunteers and donations from animal lovers.

Officers first found Fossie in the gutter a few days ago, barely clinging to life.

Now, Fossie is healthier, happier and on the mend at the Ghetto Rescue Ffoundation, a non-profit that saves dogs like Fossie as well as other animals using donations to its emergency fund.

For a while, she was touch and go, emaciated and covered in fleas. But after some much-needed tender love and care, she's going to be OK.

Fossie will be available for adoption when she has fully regained her health.
