LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- A dog named Shaggy who was abandoned by his owners when they were evicted from their home in Long Beach about two months ago is getting a new home.

The heartwarming story was brought to our attention by one of our Eyewitness News viewers who used the #ABC7Eyewitness.

Neighbors say they noticed Shaggy was left behind when his owners moved out. They fed him for nearly two months, still holding on to the thought that his owners might return.

When they realized that wasn't likely, they reached out for help online to find Shaggy a new home.

Tina Eastcott stepped up to the plate and is now providing the dog with a foster home until a forever family is found.

"I follow lots of rescues on Facebook. I saw his picture and his story, and my heart just absolutely went out of my chest," Eastcott said.

She says she's thankful Shaggy's neighbors looked after him and reached out for help. If they hadn't, Eastcott says Shaggy's story wouldn't have a happy ending.
