NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -- A family in Westchester County is desperately trying to find its pet wallaby that wandered off back in March. The wallaby was spotted just a few weeks ago, but still remains elusive.
Susan Saks says her son adopted the marsupial named Indy five years ago while in college.
The Saks family kept the animal in a large fenced-in area at their home in North Salem. They've even been profiled on TV.
The family thinks a deer slipped through the fence and scared Indy, causing him to run off eight months ago.
The Saks family says Indy has been spotted in northern Westchester, most recently a couple of weeks ago near the Jaipore Indian restaurant along Route 22 in Brewster.
The family is worried because wallabies can't survive temperatures below 10 degrees. Since Indy has been domesticated, his owner says he may literally show up at someone's door looking for warmth and a snack.
Saks says Indy is not dangerous and urges anyone who spots him to call animal control or (914) 669-0006.
Wallabies look like and hop around like their cousin the kangaroo, but are much smaller.
