DANA POINT, Calif. (KABC) -- Dramatic video captured by Capt. Dave's Dolphin and Whale Safari shows a humpback whale freeing itself from fishing gear just off Dana Point on Friday.

The whale is seen with a buoy and rope tangled around its tail. Video shows the whale slamming it's flukes on the water, trying to free itself.

Eventually, the whale gives his flukes a mighty flip and the line suddenly breaks.

It was not clear how the humpback whale got caught in the fishing gear.
