Magnitude 4.0 earthquake strikes near San Diego

JULIAN, Calif. (KABC) -- A magnitude 4.0 earthquake shook an area about an hour outside San Diego Wednesday and was followed by several aftershocks, according to the USGS.

The quake hit at 4:33 p.m. and was centered about 13 km northeast of Julian, California, which is located a little more than an hour's drive from San Diego.

An additional 3.0 quake, believed to be an aftershock, was observed a few minutes later. At 7:57 p.m. a 3.8 quake was observed in the same area.

The earthquake registered on ABC7's Quake Cam. There was no immediate word on injuries or damage.
