Prince classic 'Purple Rain' returning to AMC theaters

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- To honor Prince, AMC movie theaters in Los Angeles and throughout the country will be playing "Purple Rain," the film that rocketed him to stardom, for the next week.

The 1984 film features Prince as "the Kid" a rising musician from Minneapolis who spars with rival Morris Day and tries to win the heart of Apollonia.

The film's soundtrack, featuring classics like "When Doves Cry" and "Let's Go Crazy," sold more than 25 million copies worldwide and won Prince an Oscar for Best Original Song Score.

The film will run at 87 AMC locations nationwide from April 23-28.

In Los Angeles, the following AMC theaters will be playing "Purple Rain": Atlantic Times Square 14, Broadway 4, Covina 17, Norwalk 20, Ontario Mills 30, Orange 30 W/IMAX, Promenade 16 and Rolling Hills 20.
