Depending on where you live, $2,000 rent can get you palatial pad or leave you cramped for space.

Apartment search website Zumper looked at $2,000 rental listings in different locations across the country. While $2,000 will get you an elegant 4-bedroom home in places like Iowa City, Iowa and Kansas City, Mo., you'll still be left in a compact studio in cities like San Francisco and New York.

But don't assume that you can't find spacious accommodations for $2,000 in any big cities. In Detroit, Houston, and Miami, you could get a renovated 3-bedroom pad for $2,000. Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. offered 2-bedroom homes for that amount.
