Riverside double stabbing suspect in custody after barricade situation

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (KABC) -- A man wanted for allegedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend and a neighbor who came to her rescue was taken into custody Monday after barricading himself inside a Riverside home for at least four hours.

Riverside police and a SWAT team were summoned to a residence in the 20700 block of Freeport Drive shortly after 9 a.m. Monday.

Police said a dispute between the two exes led up to the stabbings. She was transported to a local hospital in serious condition after being stabbed in the head.

Authorities did not clarify whether the female victim was the suspect's ex-wife or his ex-girlfriend but said the two were estranged.

A neighbor who allegedly pulled the suspect off of the woman was also stabbed in the head by the suspect. He suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect, later identified as 30-year-old Jose Luis Aguirre, was taken into custody at about 2 p.m. after police said they spotted him trying to break into a truck.
