$15K worth of meat, delivery truck stolen from San Gabriel business

SAN GABRIEL, Calif. (KABC) -- A team of burglars spent 30 minutes inside a San Gabriel family-owned business and stole $15,000 worth of beef and pork and a delivery truck.

Paul Celano, the vice president of Del Mar Meats, said the burglars broke into the freezer, pulled out the business' forklift and used it to load the products into the stolen truck.

The incident happened on Monday around 11:45 p.m. Authorities said four male suspects entered the business in the 800 block of East Commercial Avenue.

Celano said the growing concern is the condition of the meat and how long it's been out of the freezer.

"If meat gets to a high temperature. People have heard the term E. coli. Well, E. coli and salmonella comes from high temperatures of meat," he said.

The San Gabriel Police Department urges people not to buy any meat that is not from a grocery store or specialty market.

Surveillance video from Del Mar Meats and across the street has provided officers with some clues.

"The suspects used a silver-colored SUV, possibly a Buick Enclave to initially arrive on the scene," Lt. Fabian Valdez said.
