HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- Part of Bolsa Chica State Beach was closed to swimmers and surfers Sunday after a shark sighting, according to lifeguards.

A surfer paddling out to a wave around 9:30 a.m. reported being bumped off a surfboard by a shark, a sighting that was confirmed by another surfer, Bolsa Chica lifeguards said.

About a mile of water near Tower 16 was closed to swimmers and surfers, although the beach itself remained open.

The closure stretched from Bolsa Chica State Beach Headquarters to part of Huntington Beach.

The water is expected to reopen Monday.
