Suspect leads police on high-speed chase in Silver Lake
A suspect wanted for assault with a deadly weapon led authorities on a high-speed chase through the Rampart area, Silver Lake and Echo Park Wednesday night.

SILVER LAKE, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A suspect wanted for assault with a deadly weapon led authorities on a high-speed chase through the Rampart area, Silver Lake and Echo Park Wednesday night.

The chase started in the MacArthur Park area around 10 p.m., according to Los Angeles police. The suspect traveled through surface streets and then ended up in the Silver Lake area.

The suspect traveled on the wrong side of the road at times and at high speeds. The headlights on the SUV remained off while the suspect weaved through traffic.

At some point, the suspect tried to ram a patrol car.

Los Angeles police went into tracking mode during the middle of the chase, but initiated it again when the suspect headed into the Echo Park area.

The suspect drove into a gas station at Fletcher and Riverside drives and then fled from the vehicle.

Within moments, officers found the suspect and took him into custody.

It was unclear what initiated the chase. The investigation was ongoing.
