Puerto Rican sisters turn YouTube channel into Lake Balboa bakery

LAKE BALBOA, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Miredys and Karla Peguero are behind the YouTube hit, Cake Bash Studio. Now they've opened a brick and mortar shop with the same name on Vanowen Street.

When you walk in the door you'll see a lot of different cakes, but what sets this place apart is the Puerto Rican flavor.

"We have the classics but we bring ourselves to the table," said Miredys Peguero, co-owner of Cake Bash Studio. "We bring the flavors from the island, we have our guava and cheese, our passion fruit colada. Flavors that most of the people don't know."

Miredys left behind a successful modeling and Spanish pop music career to join up with her sister, Karla who came to Los Angeles in 2016 after perfecting her craft as a chef in Puerto Rico.

The sisters started their YouTube channel to show off Karla's talents in the kitchen, and now the channel has almost 125,000 subscribers.

"For me, YouTube was something that people put videos there and whatever. I didn't know you could make a career out of it," Karla Peguero said, co-owner and chef at Cake Bash Studio.

You can find extravagant designs for special occasions, and if you want to learn how to do those designs they offer classes for the public. If you just want pastries for home the sisters will make sure that you take a small taste of Puerto Rico with you.
