Oakland A's, '90s band Smash Mouth engage in Twitter feud
The Oakland A's baseball team and the '90s band Smash Mouth engaged in an unlikely Twitter feud on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016.

The Oakland Athletics baseball team and the '90s band Smash Mouth engaged in an unlikely Twitter feud in the early morning hours of Saturday.

The online exchange took place at about 3 a.m., sparked by Smash Mouth's criticism of the A's for getting rid of outfielder and World Series hero Coco Crisp.

The baseball team responded by tweeting: "@smashmouth up late desperately tweeting for relevancy? Hey now, that's not very All-Star of you."

The band fired back: "@Athletics You guys made zero key additions last off-season. Same this off-season? You have great fans, come on give them something!"

The Athletics later apologized to Smash Mouth and offered free tickets to the band, along with the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at a game.
