10-year-old boy with cerebral palsy receives new leg braces with help from LAPD, community

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- More than four months after having his leg braces stolen, a 10-year-old boy with cerebral palsy received new braces thanks to the help of the Los Angeles Police Department.

On June 9, Geovanni Ramirez's leg braces were stolen, along with other valuables, when a suspect broke into his family's SUV.

Then LAPD officers, cadets and the Eagle and Badge Foundation set up a fund to help the Ramirez family raise enough money to get Geovanni new braces.

On Thursday, officers and donors from the community gave Geovanni his new braces. But in a surprise move, his mother was also presented with a check for more than $13,000 that can be used to make their family home more accessible for Geovanni.
