California-centric art exhibit set to go on display in Autry Museum

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The 105th annual Gold Medal Exhibition of the California Art Club opens to the public Sunday at the Autry Museum of the American West in Griffith Park.

Final preparations were being made for the show, which features contemporary painters and sculptors who remind patrons of their club's founding in 1909 and the beginning of California Impressionism.

There are traditional works of the outdoors and other artists take a decidedly urban view of the modern Los Angeles cityscape.

In all, more than 200 paintings and sculptures go on display in the exhibit, which will remain open until April 24.

The artworks are the best of the best as it takes an artist years to get into the California Art Club. Each piece is also judged before it's put in the show.

If a visitor leaves feeling a little closer to California and its history, then the show will be a success. You can learn more about the exhibit by clicking here.
