FRESNO, Calif. (KABC) -- When a man in Fresno saw that the apartment next to him was on fire, he ran to rescue his children -- and his ribs.

Firefighters were called around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday to the complex on Roberts Avenue near Cedar Avenue. When they arrived they found the apartment full of flames and heavy smoke.

"I thought about my ribs, like I didn't want to let my ribs burn and stuff because I take pride in what I do," said Robert Wright.

Wright said he was barbecuing when he noticed the apartment next door on fire. He got his children to safety first.

But once they were out of harm's way, he bravely went back to save those ribs before they got burned.

"I seen some fire just come all out the window man, the window busted out man," Wright said. "The only thing I think first man, make sure them ribs is right ... I'm going to enjoy this barbecue though man."

Everyone in the apartment got out safely.

Meanwhile, Wright's tale of rescuing the ribs has gone viral.
