IRWINDALE, Calif. (KABC) -- An Irwindale police officer rescued a baby from choking to death Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities received a call shortly before 5 p.m. about a baby not breathing at the Farmer Boys restaurant in the 6600 block of Irwindale Avenue.

When an officer arrived, he found the parents and the baby in the parking lot and determined the infant was turning blue from lack of oxygen.

He quickly began using CPR on the child and additional officers arrived on scene to help. The baby eventually began breathing and paramedics rendered first aid.

The baby was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation. The parents told authorities the child appeared to have choked on food.
