Recreational marijuana: License applications now accepted in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Wednesday marks the day dispensaries within Los Angeles city limits can start applying to sell recreational marijuana.
Pot enthusiasts have already started packing stores in other cities when they started selling earlier this week.
Tuesday, the first licensed dispensaries within Los Angeles County opened up shop in West Hollywood.

But shops in the city of Los Angeles haven't been so quick to open their doors - but that could all change soon.
On Wednesday, applications will be accepted for dispensaries in L.A. Then, it will be a wait-and-see situation until those licenses are actually issued.

So far, only applications from existing medical marijuana businesses are being considered.
Possibly by next Monday, customers might be able to start purchasing marijuana legally for recreational use in the city of L.A.
Until then, stores in L.A. are in a bit of a state of limbo on whether they can open and continue selling.

Selling marijuana without a license is a crime punishable by up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $500.
Those convicted of engaging in any marijuana business activities without a license will also be subject to a civil penalty of up to three times the amount of the licensing fee for each violation.
