Students in Los Alamitos send letters, care packages to troops
As opposed to writing letters to Santa Claus, an elementary school class in Los Alamitos put together care packages to send to troops stationed overseas.

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. (KABC) -- As opposed to writing letters to Santa Claus, an elementary school class in Los Alamitos put together care packages to send to troops stationed overseas.

On the Friday before winter break, children who attend Rossmoor Elementary School seemed to be less concerned about the gifts they'll soon be receiving and more about gifts for a group of men and women they've never met.

The group gesture began after teacher Tami Sciacca told her class 900 California Army National Guard soldiers based in Los Alamitos recently deployed to Kuwait.

Immediately, she said the students wanted to give back by writing letters and making care packages for those soldiers.
