SOUTH EL MONTE, Calif. (KABC) -- California Highway Patrol officers are searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a bicyclist in South El Monte early Saturday.
The incident occurred on Rosemead Boulevard near the off-ramp of the 60 Freeway at about 2:52 a.m.
Investigators say another southbound vehicle saw Heriberto Ruiz's body on the road and stopped. A white minivan then ran over Ruiz for the second time, crashed into the car that stopped and drove off.
Ruiz, 47, of Rosemead was pronounced dead at the scene.
CHP officers are looking for a 2000 model white minivan that left the scene. They have no description of the initial car that hit Ruiz.
Rosemead Boulevard was temporarily shut down in both directions as CHP officers investigated.
Anyone with further information or who may have witnessed the collision was urged to contact the East Los Angeles CHP Area Office at (323) 980-4600.
