SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An 18-year-old man was killed and his brother wounded by gunfire in an apparent car-to-car shooting in South Los Angeles Wednesday.
Investigators were seen examining the sidewalks and streets Wednesday night searching for clues following the shooting, which occurred in the area of 68th Street and Denker Avenue at about 4:50 p.m.
"We had our suspect in a light-colored SUV behind them. At some point, they drove on the wrong side of the road and fired multiple rounds inside, hitting our victim's vehicle," said Chris Barling of the Los Angeles Police Department.
A vehicle that the three brothers were in struck a fire hydrant, sending water shooting into the air.
The 18-year-old man, Keion Jeffrey Coleman, was declared dead at the scene. His 16-year-old brother was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition. A third brother in the car was not injured.
The gunman was driving a white vehicle, possibly an SUV, and the weapon seen was a chrome handgun. Two women were also seen in the suspect's vehicle. One female was the passenger in the front seat, and the second female was in the backseat.
The vehicle was last seen traveling southbound on Denker Avenue.
A motive for the shooting has not been determined.
"I have no indication at this time that our victims did anything to provoke it, did any return fire, did any shooting at all," Barling said.
Anyone with information was urged to contact the Los Angeles Police Department.
