Woman pleads not guilty to beating grandmother to death

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A 25-year-old woman accused of beating her 82-year-old grandmother to death pleaded not guilty to a murder charge on Monday.

Rebecca Surratt is accused beating her grandmother, Martha Yslas, after an argument at their home in the 300 block of S. Woods Avenue in East Los Angeles on May 6.

Yslas later died.

Surratt was being held on $2 million bail and faces up to 26 years to life in prison if convicted as charged.

The 25-year-old was expected to be due back in court on June 15 as the case remained under investigation.
