Ontario families in need receive toys from Spark of Love

ONTARIO, Calif. (KABC) -- Santa's workshop went into overdrive in Ontario Saturday as thousands of presents were handed out to families in need thanks to the Spark of Love toy drive.

Many people waited in line for hours to make sure their children had something to open Christmas morning.

"This is the other part of Stuff-A-Bus, where we get to interact with families and actually give out the toys," Ontario Councilman Ruben Valencia said.

The way it works is that each family gets a ticket. They put the ages of their children and then a shopper takes the ticket to pick out two to three Christmas presents for each child.

It's a well-oiled machine that requires the help of a lot of volunteers.

"I have plenty of stuff, but they don't, so it's kind of sad and that's why I'm here to help," David Towles said.

Towles and his sister, Sarah, said this is what Christmas is all about: giving back and helping out those in need.
