NBA Draft 2021 - Get to know Evan Mobley

Evan Mobley has had his name called in the 2021 NBA draft. The No. 3 overall pick to theCleveland Cavaliersenters the league regarded as one of the most highly touted big men in recent years.

The USC product entered his lone college season as the No. 3 high school prospect in ESPN's 2020 rankings. His father, Eric, is an assistant coach for the Trojans. Mobley's older brother, Isaiah, was a sophomore teammate last year.

As Mobley transitions to the NBA, let's examine what more there is to know about his potential at the next level.

4th: Mobley is just the fourth USC player in the common draft era (since 1966) to be drafted in the top 10. He is joined by O.J. Mayo (3rd overall in 2008), Onyeka Okongwu (6th in 2020) and DeMar DeRozan (9th in 2009).

Mobley also became the fourth player in school history to win Conference Player of the Year honors and first to do so since Sam Clancy in 2001-02.

63: Mobley seemed quite comfortable getting easy shots throughout his freshman season. His 63 dunks were third-most among all players in Division I hoops in 2020. OnlyChimezie Metuhas recorded a higher single-season dunk total among USC players in the last decade.

79: The big man proved quite adept as a playmaker as a Trojan. Among all 7-footers in D-I over the last 25 seasons, Mobley is tied for fifth with 79 assists last season. USC went 3-0 in the games he recorded at least five assists.

1st: Last year, the USC product became the first player ever to win Pac-12 Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors in the same season. Gary Payton (1987) is the only other Pac-12 player to win the latter two awards at once.

The only other major conference player to win all three awards isAnthony Davisin 2012 with Kentucky. He was drafted first overall that year.

35: Mobley joined NBA champion and former UCLA guardJrue Holiday(2007-08) as the only two-time winners of the Gatorade California Player of the Year award in its 35-year history.

In winning 2020 honors, Mobley averaged 20.5 points, 12.2 rebounds, 5.2 blocks and 4.6 assists as Rancho Christian finished with a 22-8 record.
