LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Donald Sterling was declared mentally fit by a new doctor who performed a comprehensive medical examination over the weekend, a source confirmed to ABC7.

The exam was done in Las Vegas by Dr. Jeffrey Cummings of the Cleveland Clinic. He is one of the top dementia and Alzheimer's disease specialists in the country.

Cummings determined that Sterling, 80, had no signs of dementia, but he did show signs of MCI, mild cognitive impairment, which is common in people Sterling's age.

The testing was arranging by one of Sterling's attorneys. It follows a previous diagnosis by Shelly Sterling's doctors who found that Donald Sterling is mentally incapacitated.

With just a week before the Clippers sale trial begins, attorneys are expected to meet on Monday because Donald Sterling wants a continuance of the July 7 trial date.

The judge must also decide whether Donald Sterling can present outside evidence with his own witnesses. Cummings has agreed to testify at the trial.

Shelly Sterling is suing to get approval to sell the Clippers for $2 billion to former Microsoft CEO Steve Balmer. NBA owners would still have to approve the deal.
