SYLMAR, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A high-speed chase of an alleged stolen vehicle ended in a multi-vehicle crash on the southbound 5 Freeway in the Sylmar area of Los Angeles Wednesday morning, police said.

An LAPD unit began following the driver on the northbound 405 Freeway. He transitioned onto the eastbound 118 Freeway and then eventually the southbound 5 Freeway, where the officer attempted to pull the suspect over and a pursuit ensued.

The suspect crashed on the southbound 5 Freeway near Osborne Street and then attempted to run across the freeway, prompting a traffic accident which left a 1-year-old child hurt. The suspect was taken into custody but the child sustained head injuries.

The California Highway Patrol temporarily closed the southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway near Osborne Street in Sylmar.
