SYLMAR, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A man in his early 20s died Wednesday morning after being shot in Sylmar by another man, who remained at large, authorities said.

Officers responded at 1:40 a.m. to an apartment complex in the area of Dronfield Avenue and Sayre Street, where they found a man who had been shot in the abdomen, according to a spokesperson for the LAPD's Mission Division.

News video showed firefighter-paramedics attending to the wounded man in a carport at the location before transporting him to a hospital, where police said he underwent surgery.

The victim succumbed to his wounds at the medical center, said LAPD Sgt. James Bender. His name was not immediately released.
