LAPD search for suspect wanted in armed robbery in Tarzana

TARZANA, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Authorities searched for a suspect wanted in an armed robbery in Tarzan on Wednesday.

Los Angeles police said the suspect approached a victim in the driveway of an apartment complex on Collins Street after noticing the victim had cash on him.

Authorities said the suspect pulled a gun on the victim and demanded the money.

Officials said the suspect also searched the victim's Mercedes before getting into his own Ford Explorer and driving off.

The victim and a friend got into the Mercedes and followed the suspect. Police said the suspect began firing at the Mercedes.

Authorities stated the victim continued to follow the suspect onto Hatteras Street where the suspect eventually got out of the SUV, pointed a gun at the victim and ran into an apartment building.

Police said they know the identity of the suspect, but hadn't located him.

Six parked cars were sideswiped during the incident, according to officials. Police said there were no injuries.

Authorities had originally stated the suspect was wanted in multiple armed carjackings, but later clarified he was wanted for armed robbery.

Los Angeles police blocked off Reseda Boulevard between Hatteras and Oxnard streets before 5:40 p.m. The roads have since been reopened.
