Golfers use high-quality technology indoors to boost performance
Amateur and professional golfers are using high-end technology indoors to perfect their game on the golf course.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Golfers usually practice their game on a golf course, but now many professionals are going indoors and using technology to perfect their performance.

At Urban Golf Performance, golfers are using high-speed camera systems, radar Doppler systems and simulators.

Store owner Mackenzie Todd said at his West L.A. indoor golf facility they observe, assess and let golfers obsess on their every move.

Golf pro Ben Smock said he combines a radar Doppler system with a balance plate that shows how much pressure and percentage of distribution is on each foot when hitting a ball, along with forced rotation in the ground. The radar system is called a trackman and it can pick up 30 different perimeters of ball flight, Todd said.

The whole process is captured on a high-speed camera that films at 120 frames per second so golfers can see exactly what is going on throughout the entire movement of their swing.

Since the end game is getting in the ball in the hole, an ultrasound putting lab takes a 3-D look at your effort, recording spin, face and angle to help you understand your stroke's characteristics.

The store also offers a high-definition golf simulator where you can play on up to 30 different courses. Some of those courses are considered the best courses in the world such as Pebble Beach or St. Andrews, Todd said.

With the initial session $165, you might wonder how fast you'll improve using these golf gadgets. According to Todd: PDQ.

"In the first session we see improvement. It can be anything from concept development to immediately strokes dropping," he said. "(Golf) is known as one of the most difficult games in the world, but when you learn it and you can experience it, there's nothing like it."
