THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (KABC) -- A teen has been arrested for running over a school employee at Thousand Oaks High School and fleeing the scene, leaving the victim with life-threatening injuries.

Authorities say the 16-year-old suspect stole money from a concession stand and ran over the woman as he tried to flee the scene around 8 p.m. Friday.

The victim, identified as activities assistant Lisa Solis, had tried to stop the teen from fleeing by standing in front of the vehicle. But authorities say the teen ran her over as he fled the scene.

She was rushed to the hospital and family members say she had extensive hemorrhaging and a broken jaw, ribs and leg.

Solis is also a parent of students in the district. She was listed in critical condition at a nearby hospital, Ventura County sheriff's officials said.

"We are heartbroken that a member of our CVUSD family suffered life threatening injuries during an incident that occurred outside last night's basketball game at Thousand Oaks High School," said Mark McLaughlin, superintendent of the Conejo Valley Unified School District.

"Mrs. Lisa Solis, Activities Assistant for Thousand Oaks High School is a dedicated member of the TOHS team, and a parent of CVUSD students. Please keep Lisa and her family in your thoughts and prayers."

The suspect fled the scene, but deputies were able to catch up to him near his home. He was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and booked at the Juvenile Justice Center.

The suspect is from Thousand Oaks, but his name was not released because he is a juvenile.

Officials said the hit-and-run happened during a CIF basketball playoff game at the campus.

A GoFundMe page has been started to help Lisa Solis with her medical bills.
