Traffic gripes: 405 Freeway commute remains brutal
We survived 'Carmaggedon' and got wider lanes and the nation's longest continuous carpool lane. But drivers still say the commute is brutal - what's the deal?

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- What's your least favorite freeway? Is it the 10, 134, the 5? Everybody has an opinion - but the 405 Freeway always ranks high.

We survived "Carmaggedon" and got wider lanes and the nation's longest continuous carpool lane as a result. But drivers still say the commute is brutal - what's the deal?

"When you have people trying to get to work, you have a lot more demand for peak travel during those peak times and then the 405 becomes congested like clockwork," said Juan Matute with the UCLA Lewis Center for Regional Policy Studies. "Even if we were to add three more lanes to the 405, there are a lot of people who would want to take trips on the 405 if traffic were just a little bit better."
