NEW YORK -- A freight train derailed in the Bronx on Wednesday morning, prompting a suspension of Amtrak service between New York and Connecticut.

The incident happened in the CSX Oak Point Yard around 9:30 a.m.

The cars that derailed were reportedly empty, and no injuries were reported, but one of Amtrak's tracks was blocked by the derailed cars.

Amtrak customers were being instructed to switch to Metro North to continue their journey, and it was unclear when regular passenger service would resume.
