LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Gov. Jerry Brown vetoed a measure Tuesday that would have allowed solo drivers to use carpool lanes during off-peak hours.

The bill would have allowed drivers to use those lanes on the 134 and 210 freeways in an effort to ease traffic at night, but Brown said he believes carpool lanes are important in Los Angeles County to reduce pollution and maximize the use of freeways.

The governor vetoed a similar bill last year.
