LA looking at $590M downtown streetcar line

The Los Angeles City Council is studying a plan to build a four-mile streetcar line through downtown that would cost about $590 million.

A Los Angeles City Council committee is looking at the funding plan to build, operate and maintain a streetcar line downtown.

The four-mile streetcar line would travel through key parts of downtown and could be funded through a combination of federal grants, county Metro funds and local dollars.

City Councilman Jose Huizar, who represents much of the downtown area, called the project "shovel-ready" with $590 million in secured funding.
