Santa Monica's Big Blue Buses going electric

SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- Santa Monica's Big Blue Buses are going electric.
The Santa Monica City Council voted to start a small pilot program of 10 electric buses. So far, the buses run on renewable natural gas.
BBB operates a fleet of 200 buses, with their total cost-per-mile being $2.79.
Battery electric buses are estimated at $4.05 a mile, but city officials expect that number to be reduced with better technology.
