VENTURA, Calif. (KABC) -- Ventura firefighters rescued a small dog trapped 15 to 20 feet below the top of a jetty at Ventura Harbor.

The owners of the dog told firefighters that they were walking on the beach on Sunday, when their dog disappeared into the jetty made up of mostly concrete jacks. They searched for an hour before calling firefighters at about 12:20 p.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters could hear the dog barking and whimpering. They eventually found the dog trapped by sand in an empty space underneath a jack.

Although stuck for about 2.5 hours, the dog was not injured and was reunited with its owners. No firefighters were injured either.
