Driver, jogger in fatal Walnut crash identified

WALNUT, Calif. (KABC) -- The identities of the driver and jogger involved in a fatal car crash in Walnut were released on Tuesday.

Los Angeles County sheriff's officials identified the driver as 36-year-old Haissan Massalkhy of West Covina and the deceased jogger as 59-year-old Chi Shao of Walnut.

Authorities said Massalkhy was driving a 1989 Toyota Camry when he struck Shao, who was jogging in a bike lane early Monday morning near the corner of La Puente Road and Citadel Drive.

Shao died at the scene.

Investigators said Shao was carried several yards on the hood of the Toyota before the vehicle went off the road and crashed into a backyard brick wall.

Massalkhy was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, sheriff's officials said.
