MALIBU, Calif. (KABC) -- A small brush fire erupted in the Malibu area as a record-breaking heat wave hit the Southland on Friday.

Firefighters were sent to the 19400 block of Pacific Coast Highway about 11:40 a.m. As of 3 p.m., the blazed had scorched two acres of medium to heavy brush in the hills just west of Topanga Canyon and was 75 percent contained.

Pacific Coast Highway reopened in both directions after being shut down for several hours between Topanga Canyon and Civic Center Drive due to the fire fight.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
