When temperatures rise, appliances have to work hard to keep running, which may lead to outages.

LADWP offers a few tips to keep consumption down:

  • Turn appliances off from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Turn your thermostat to 78 degrees
  • Close blinds to keep homes cooler
  • Unplug energy vampires, such as electric toothbrushes and cell phone chargers
  • Energy vampires "are constantly consuming energy. so you can unplug those. It will help you save not only money, but it will help you reduce energy use," said Jay Puklavetz with LADWP.
