SoCal stays warm as Midwest, East Coast shiver

WOODLAND HILLS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- It might just be why so many people move to Southern California: a "warmth wave" amid a bitterly cold winter in the rest of the U.S.

As many locations in the Southland enjoyed balmy, 75-degree weather, the Midwest and East Coast were experiencing teeth-chattering temperatures.

In Minnesota, things have warmed Thursday up to zero degrees, a big improvement over Wednesday, when the temperatures dipped to 37 below zero.

In Chicago, water pipes froze and burst over streets. A record five feet of snow fell in the northeast.

But meanwhile in Southern California, there were blue skies and people outside enjoying what seemed like perfect weather.

"This is fantastic, because I'm going back to Texas in a few days and it's cold there so this is very nice," said Rod Wein, who was visiting Woodland Hills Thursday.

And don't worry -- the warm weather is going to stick around. Friday's temperatures are expected be in the low 80s.
