Wild weather floods streets in SoCal, prompts LA river rescue

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Los Angeles firefighters helped a man cross the swollen Los Angeles River Monday after he became trapped in a tree.

The man was trapped in the vegetation and couldn't cross as the water surged between 3 and 5 mph, authorities said. Firefighters extended a ladder to serve as a bridge for the man and he was hooked up to a harness to safely cross over.

The wild weather brought thunderstorms and large chunks of hail to some areas of Southern California, flooding streets and surprising residents.

Melissa Suarez was driving in Murrieta when the rain poured down in buckets. A road in one neighborhood became a river during the downpour.

The wild weather moved out Tuesday morning and a warm up was expected to start throughout the week.
