Suspect brandishes large knife in attempted robbery at Westminster liquor store

WESTMINSTER, Calif. (KABC) -- Orange County law enforcement on Wednesday are searching for a man who pulled out a large knife during an attempted robbery at a Westminster liquor store.

Westminster police responded to a call of an armed robbery at Rancho Liquor in the 5100 block of Westminster Boulevard shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday.

An employee told officers that a man had entered the business, brandished a large knife and threatened the employee, prompting the scared worker to run out of the store.

Captured on surveillance video from the liquor store, the suspect is seen attempting to open the cash register but is unsuccessful.

He got into the passenger side of an early 1990s Ford F250 pickup truck and fled the area, Westminster police said in a press release.

The store employee was not injured, and there was no loss to the business, police said.

The suspect is described as a white man between 25 and 30 years old and was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, black baseball cap and gloves.

A description of the driver of the pickup truck was not released.

Anyone with information on the crime was urged to call Westminster police at 714-898-3315 or Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1-855-TIP-OCCS.
